Turning Sports Debates into a Fun & Interactive Online Community.
Culdesac is a sports-focused social platform designed to capture the energy of live debates and bring them online. By creating a space where fans can share opinions, argue plays, and build community, Culdesac aimed to become the go-to app for interactive sports conversation.

The Challenge
Sports fans thrive on debate—whether it’s about the best player, a controversial call, or season predictions. While existing social platforms allowed for conversation, they lacked the focus and community that true fans craved. Culdesac saw the opportunity to give fans a dedicated platform for spirited, structured debate.
The challenge was to design an app that felt as lively and spontaneous as in-person arguments, while still being easy to navigate and moderated for constructive discussion. To succeed, Culdesac needed a product that balanced social engagement with scalable, digital-first design.

Our Approach
We kicked off the collaboration by inheriting the client’s existing discovery and design assets—surveys, competitive analysis, personas, information architecture, and high-fidelity prototypes—so we could accelerate our timeline and eliminate redundant effort. From there, we ran a focused feature-workshop to pare the scope down to an MVP: we ranked every proposed feature by value and kept only those with the highest impact for launch.
We also conducted a heuristic evaluation of the existing prototype, identifying gaps in hierarchy, organization, and UX clarity—and supplemented this with a competitive analysis of content-creation and publishing platforms (e.g., Substack, Quora, Reddit) to borrow best practices for long-form writing, article discovery, and community engagement. After that, we built a site map, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups using the client’s existing brand palette, then engaged in iterative design collaboration and client review sessions, ensuring full transparency and alignment with user needs and business goals.
- Conducted research into fan behavior and debate culture
- Designed interactive features that mimic live argument formats
- Built scalable architecture through mobile app development

The Impact
The new Culdesac app launched as a refined, content-rich platform designed for sports fans to express opinions, debate, and write long-form commentary—not just consume highlight reels. By repositioning the app as a social publishing space rather than a typical flashy sports feed, we delivered a differentiated experience that encourages thoughtful engagement and sustained community interaction. Users gained access to a streamlined interface and better organization of content, improving discoverability and lowering friction in writing and reading sports commentary.
Although specific numeric metrics weren’t published, the repositioning strongly enhanced Culdesac’s value proposition: a place where serious fans can publish, read, and engage in meaningful discourse. By giving voice back to the fan, the platform carved out a unique niche in the sports-tech landscape and established themselves as a serious contender beyond conventional fan-apps.
- Increased engagement through repeat user participation in debates
- Positive feedback from sports communities on usability and fun
- Established Culdesac as a differentiated platform in the sports media space
- Positioned the company for future growth with added features like polls and live match debates
