Reintroducing a Sustainability Leader Through Strategic Web Redesign.
Cleantech Group is a global authority in sustainability innovation, providing market intelligence, research, and ecosystem connections across corporates, investors, governments, and nonprofits. With more than 20 years shaping the cleantech landscape, they serve as a trusted partner for organizations navigating the future of climate and energy transitions.

The Challenge
Despite its reputation for rigorous research and deep industry insight, Cleantech Group found that its website no longer reflected the sophistication of its brand or the breadth of its offering. Users struggled to understand who Cleantech served, what services existed, and how to navigate to research, events, or intelligence products. Each audience segment—corporations, investors, innovators, policymakers, and nonprofits—entered the site with different goals, yet the experience failed to direct them toward content and services tailored to their needs.
Internally, the website created friction rather than empowerment. The existing CMS made updating content slow and dependent on designers or developers, while outdated layouts made it nearly impossible to showcase complex data or articulate Cleantech Group’s value proposition with clarity. Leadership wanted a digital presence that balanced marketing-forward storytelling with research credibility, reflected their position as the industry’s definitive source for climate innovation intelligence, and delivered a scalable framework for future content and product evolution.
The result was a digital presence that felt text-heavy, structurally inconsistent, and under-leveraged as a conversion engine. Cleantech Group needed a unified digital strategy—and a website that could finally match their authority, impact, and ambition.

Our Approach
We began with a comprehensive Product Strategy Sprint, aligning executives and cross-functional teams around shared goals, audience priorities, and measurable outcomes. Through interviews, competitor analysis, and a full UX audit, we surfaced the most pressing issues: unclear navigation, inconsistent messaging, overlapping content, and a lack of user role segmentation. This foundational work revealed that Cleantech Group needed not only a redesigned website but a reframed digital ecosystem.
With clear insights, we restructured the information architecture around user pathways, creating tailored content journeys for Corporations, Investors, Innovators, Government & Public Sector, and Foundations & Nonprofits. This shift reframed the site around user needs rather than internal org structure, allowing each audience to understand where they fit and how Cleantech Group could help. Simultaneously, our team developed a modular, future-ready design system using principles from our Website Redesign Services to ensure flexibility, consistency, and ease of content updates long after launch.
To address Cleantech Group’s desire to showcase research and data without heavy engineering lift, we explored hybrid visual frameworks: customizable story-driven diagrams and scalable content blocks that communicated complex insights without custom code. By combining strategic clarity, visual modernization, and a CMS that empowered the internal team, we delivered a digital foundation that could evolve with Cleantech Group’s offerings over time.

The Impact
The redesigned Cleantech Group website reestablished the organization’s digital presence as the authoritative hub for sustainability intelligence. With clearer pathways, refined messaging, and modernized structure, users now understand who Cleantech serves, what solutions they offer, and how to engage more effectively across research, events, and advisory services. Early feedback highlighted dramatically improved comprehension, faster wayfinding, and a stronger sense of brand authority.
Operationally, the new modular design system empowered the internal team to publish updates, launch pages, and highlight insights without relying on external support—reducing both long-term cost and time to market for new content. The enhanced clarity and user alignment also strengthened Cleantech Group’s ability to showcase thought leadership and drive engagement with their flagship Forums. The new platform positions them for scalable growth, improved outreach, and deeper value delivery across every audience segment they serve.
