Modernizing Bible Reading for a Digital Audience.
The Word is a platform designed to make scripture more accessible and engaging through modern digital experiences. By combining traditional texts with interactive tools, The Word aimed to reach new generations while supporting existing faith communities.

The Challenge
Bible study has traditionally relied on physical texts or fragmented digital resources, leaving many users seeking a more modern experience. The Word identified an opportunity to build an app that combined scripture with interactive features such as study guides, reading plans, and social sharing through America Magazine.
The challenge was to design an app that respected tradition while embracing innovation. It had to feel trustworthy and reverent while also being engaging for digital-native users. This balance of heritage and modernity was essential to attracting new audiences without alienating long-time believers.

Our Approach
We collaborated with The Word to design a mobile-first experience tailored to modern reading behaviors. Our UX Research revealed user preferences for features like personalized reading plans, highlighting tools, and social sharing, which became central to the product. Through Mobile App Development, we built a scalable platform with offline capabilities, ensuring accessibility worldwide. The UI/UX was designed to feel timeless and respectful, while adding modern interactions that made scripture exploration more engaging.
In our commitment to enhancing accessibility, we included customizable features like font adjustments and light/dark modes. This thoughtful approach empowers users to tailor their digital reading experience, fostering inclusivity and personalization. By prioritizing accessibility, we not only elevated the value for existing subscribers but also drew in new users seeking a platform that accommodates a variety of preferences.
In working with our clients who hosted their content on Drupal and WordPress websites, we capitalized on the flexibility of both platforms, enabling the creation of public APIs with diverse data. Through collaboration, we meticulously crafted the data structure for the Drupal API, ensuring ease of implementation and usability for the mobile app. Following successful implementation and testing, the subsequent and final phase involved replicating the same data structure for the WordPress API response. By merging these two responses, we ensured a unified and enriched content experience for our mobile users.
